In just over a week, Bosnian Serb forces deported more than 25,000 women and children, and systematically slaughtered more than 8,000 Bosniak men. Formally ruled a genocide in two international courts, the crimes committed in Srebrenica in July of 1995 constitute one of the darkest episodes of human history. The UN troops that were supposed to protect thousands of people from the "Republic of Srpska Army" were not able nor willing to do so due to a number of reasons which lead to more than 8.000 deaths in the course of just a few days.
