SIEGE OF SARAJEVO




44 months long siege of Sarajevo was the longest siege of a capital city in modern history. The siege caused a serious humanitarian crisis in the city so Bosnian army decided to build a tunnel under the Sarajevo airport, which was controlled by the UN troops, in order to enable at least some kind of communication between Sarajevo and the rest of free Bosnian territory. Join us on this tour and learn how the tunnel helped Sarajevo survive the siege, how Yugoslavia fell apart and enjoy some of the best panoramic views of Sarajevo.

This tour first takes us to the Sarajevo War Tunnel, one of the key things that helped Sarajevo survive 44 months long siege. Being the only way in and out of the city for people, food and medical supplies, ammunition etc. the tunnel really meant life for Sarajevans. After the tunnel we will go to Mt. Trebevic where you will see some of the positions that were held by the occupying army during the war. There you will also have an opportunity to enjoy some great panoramic views of Sarajevo and see the abandoned 1984 Olympic bobsled track.
